The Erbil Police Directorate has set next July 21 as the date for handing over unlicensed weapons to the security authorities, and announced the issuance of strict instructions regarding disarmament.
The directorate’s spokesman, Hooker Aziz Muhammad, told Al-Sabah: This date is the last for the delivery of unlicensed weapons.
Those involved will be punished.
And he indicated that Weapons Law No. (2) of 2022 stressed the application of the articles of the law that include the necessity of obtaining a license to possess weapons, otherwise they are considered smuggled and illegal.
Muhammad pointed to the issuance of strict instructions related to disarmament, which stipulate allowing the way for a certain period of time for people who possess unnumbered and unlicensed weapons to go to 10 centers in the center of Erbil, which have been designated for registration and numbering for the purpose of knowing each area and what it contains of weapons and their owners. And he warned that after the expiration of the period specified for the registration of weapons in the centers, the law will be enforced against anyone who carries a weapon that is not registered and licensed and is considered illegal, and is punished according to Law No. (2) of 2022, with imprisonment for a period of no less than one year and no more than three years, or a fine of $ Two to five million dinars.
