    Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government announced today, Sunday, new procedures regarding the pursuit and seizure of unlicensed weapons.
    After a security meeting today, the Ministry decided to take the following measures:
    Article 1 / Disarmament of all weapons and ammunition that are outside the security and military institutions in the Kurdistan Region
    Article 2: Military weapons shall be collected according to the following procedures:
    * Opening 12 centers in all governorates and autonomous administrations under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior and in coordination with the Ministry of Peshmerga and Asayish.
    * Citizens who own weapons and military munitions must hand them over to the centers mentioned in the first paragraph.
    * The Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the Ministry of Peshmerga and Asayish, forms 12 committees with the aim of receiving weapons and military munitions.
    * The Ministry of Interior determines the locations of these centers and circulates them.
    Article 3 / Registration of firearms and their ammunition, such as Kalashnikovs and similar weapons, provided that the caliber of their bullets does not exceed 39 x 7.62 m, and the pistol weapon and its ammunition, provided that the caliber of its bullets does not exceed 9 mm, and according to the following procedures:
    * The Ministry of Interior will open 40 centers for all firearms in the provincial police directorates, autonomous administrations and police departments in the districts, with the aim of collecting the mentioned weapons.
    * The Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the Ministry of Peshmerga and Asayish, will form 40 committees with the aim of registering weapons and ammunition.
    * The Ministry of Interior will determine the locations of the centers and circulate them.
    * The weapons that are registered can remain with their owners, provided that he writes a pledge that he will keep the weapon in his home and not carry it with him, sell it, gift it to anyone, or use it in any way.
    Article 4 / Weapons not covered by Article 3, their owners must hand them over in accordance with Article 2 and its instructions.
    Article 5 / The Ministry of Interior will prepare records to record the details of the weapons that are handed over.
    Article 6 / The Ministry of Interior will establish an electronic system to record weapons data based on the information of the fifth paragraph.
    Article 7 / Through the media, the news will be circulated. Those who own heavy and medium weapons must hand them over according to the aforementioned instructions, and those who own pistol weapons must register them at the registration centers specified by the Ministry of Interior.
    Article 8/ A higher committee will be formed in the Ministry of Interior headed by the Minister of Interior and the membership of each of the deputy minister, the legal advisor in the ministry, the director of the ministry’s office, the director general of the police, a representative of the Asayish, the representative of the Security Council of the Territory, the representative of the Ministry of Peshmerga, and the positions of the members shall be no less than For the position of general manager, with the aim of following up the process of collecting unregistered weapons, and they will meet every 30 days.
    Article 9 / After completing everything mentioned in these instructions, the Ministry of Interior will form 8 committees in the governorates and autonomous administrations with the aim of evaluating licenses to carry weapons, and after evaluating the carrying of weapons, the committee will decide to give the license according to Article 2 of 2022.
    Article 10 / After one year of implementing these instructions, the owner of any unlicensed weapon will be referred to the judiciary according to Article 2 of 2022.
    Article 11 / Any citizen who is arrested in possession of a weapon will be registered in the mentioned registration centers.
    Article 12 / The process of granting a license to carry a weapon will be in accordance with Weapons Law No. 2 of 2022.
    Article 13 / These instructions will be implemented from the day of their issuance for a period of one year and will be published in the Kurdish Gazette.
    Article 14 / Any citizen who does not register his weapon after the period mentioned in the above instructions, his weapon will be considered illegal and will be dealt with according to the law.
