{Economic: Al Furat News} Kurdish media revealed today, Sunday, that revenues from the Bashmakh border crossing in the Kurdistan region decreased by 50%, while revenues from other border crossings in the region decreased by 10% to 20% in general.
And the Director General of the Kurdistan Region Customs announced in a press statement that the Iraqi customs opened its doors in the face of merchants, and does not implement the customs tariff regulations, which he sees as the biggest obstacle to the movement of trade.

Data from the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Region indicate that the revenues of the Bashmakh border crossing declined by about 50% in 2023, and in addition to Bashmakh, customs revenues in the Kurdistan Region declined by between 10% and 20% this year for reasons explained by the Director General of Customs, Samal Abdul Rahman.

And Samal Abd al-Rahman enumerated the reasons for the decline in revenues: "The instability of the political situation in Kurdistan, the low exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar, and the lack of budget disbursement. Above all, the biggest challenge facing us is the Iraqi border crossings that do not apply the customs tariff system, and some of our merchants go there for private benefits."

And Kurdish media indicated that "the annual customs revenues of the Kurdistan region range between 1.3 trillion and 1.5 trillion dinars, and they constitute 10% of the total revenues of the Kurdistan Region. And they indicated that last month, the Minister of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Awat Sheikh Janab, decided to unify the

[ltr]She pointed out that, "Among the reasons for the decline in trade in Bashmakh is the change in the path of transit traffic, which is now heading more towards Haji Omran and Pervez Khan, so that you no longer find convoys of car shipments, construction materials and petrochemicals in Bashmakh, for more than a year, except for a little."[/ltr]
