Planning: No cuts to benefits or taxes due to census

It is not new for parties here and there to seek, for motives, to obstruct a government achievement or a direction in order to achieve development and advance the economy. The latest of these miserable attempts is that the general census of population and housing will have a negative impact on citizens, which the Ministry of Planning refuted, confirming that the census is in their interest, and not the opposite, as is being promoted, urging them to participate for a better future for Iraq.
The Ministry's Advisor for Census Affairs, Dr. Ali Al-Mubarqa, told Al-Sabah: "The workers in the General Population and Housing Census project have been well trained, in a way that allows them to visit families more than once to convince citizens of the need to participate in the general census, due to the importance of this project, which aims to provide accurate and comprehensive data that contributes to preparing national development plans to address challenges and meet the needs of the population in various fields, whether economic, health, service, educational, environmental, cultural, social or other." He expressed his "hope that media institutions and all patriots will contribute to working to deliver a positive message that motivates citizens to participate effectively, which achieves the interest of the people and ensures a better future for future generations." Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Mohammed Ali Tamim, said in a speech yesterday, Saturday, that the population census will draw a development map in Iraq. Tamim added that "the population census is the first comprehensive development census for Iraq to be conducted in (37) years," noting that "the census represents a message of social, security and economic stability in the country, and that the government supported the census procedures because it represents a national and constitutional entitlement." He also pointed out that "the census data will be used for development and to anticipate a better future for Iraqis and achieve a state of population stability."
Minister of Labor Ahmed Al-Asadi denied yesterday, Saturday, that there is any relationship between cutting social assistance salaries and the population census, which he considered a "developmental process," and the Ministry of Planning confirmed that the census does not aim to cut subsidies or impose taxes.
