International organizations praise the government's national initiatives

Several international organizations have praised the national initiatives launched by the government to reduce air pollutants and improve public health.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment Jassim Al-Falahi told Al-Sabah that "the United Nations bodies participating in the Climate Summit (COP 29) praised the role of the Iraqi negotiating delegation in the conference, after the (International Coalition for Clean Air and Climate) affiliated with the United Nations Environment Program announced its praise for Iraq's efforts during the negotiations held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku." He added that "the international organizations praised the efforts of the Iraqi government in sustainability in the oil and gas sectors through national initiatives and projects that it is currently implementing," noting that "Iraq, through the negotiations, confirmed the implementation of its international obligations in accordance with the (Paris Climate Agreement), taking into account the national interests of the country.
In turn, the member of the Iraqi delegation to the Climate Summit and head of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Water and Marshlands, Faleh Al-Khazaali, told Al-Sabah: “Iraq is working to implement its obligations under the Climate Agreement and related international documents,” calling on “the countries of the region to form a negotiating group within this process to coordinate among themselves and work together to avert the risks of climate change.”
