Kurdistan Region of Iraq plans to receive 10 million tourists annually

The activities of the second Sulaymaniyah International Tourism Exhibition concluded yesterday, Saturday, with the participation of more than 60 companies from 10 Arab and foreign countries. The exhibition witnessed initial understandings between the participants, and official sources explained that the region plans to receive 10 million tourists annually.
Director of the Sulaymaniyah International Exhibition, Hassan Rahim, told Al-Sabah: "The second session of the International Tourism Exhibition, which lasted for three days, witnessed initial understandings between the participants, and included a number of different activities and events for the tourism sector," indicating that more than 60 companies from 10 Arab and foreign countries, including Turkey, Iran, Qatar, the Emirates, India and others, participated in the exhibition, under the supervision of the regional government and the relevant authorities."
Various participation
He added that "the tourism sector included several fields, including recreational, religious, therapeutic and medical tourism, as well as inspection and nature tourism and mountain climbing, as well as artistic, cultural, sports, commercial, scientific and educational tourism and others," noting that the exhibition was held with the participation of dozens of airlines, hotels, motels, tourism companies, distinguished and well-known restaurants and others.
Geographical location
He explained that "the Kurdistan Region of Iraq is one of the most suitable environments for developing the tourism sector, through its geographical location, climate and beautiful nature," noting that "the regional government's plan for the current year is to exceed the number of visitors to 10 million tourists annually, as the influx of tourists to the region's governorates increases tourism and economic activity in the region, and is an important activity for increasing income and providing job opportunities."
Workshops
It is noteworthy that the exhibition, which opened its doors to visitors daily from 11 am to 6 pm, witnessed the organization of workshops targeting young people and provided them with training and professional development opportunities, with the granting of international certificates to participants in these workshops, with the aim of enhancing their skills and preparing them for the labor market.
The exhibition is an interactive platform for local and international tourism companies to display the latest tourism services and programs, which contributes to enhancing trade cooperation and reflects the development taking place in the tourism sector within the region.
