Shafaq News/ The Kurdistan Regional Government announced, on Monday, the start of the voluntary return of the displaced in its second phase.
"This is the second phase of the voluntary return of the displaced," said the region's Interior Minister, Riber Ahmed, in a press conference held today, in Khazer district in Erbil Governorate, which was attended by Shafaq News Agency's correspondent, noting that "the first phase included the voluntary return of 444 families to their areas of origin, out of the sight of the media."
He added, "All sides must intensify efforts to restore stability to this region, which falls within Article 140 of the Iraqi constitution," calling for "the application of this article."
Ahmed stressed, "The regional government has spared no effort to restore stability to these areas," noting that "the doors of the region will remain open to all who are subjected to injustice, with an emphasis on the continuation of the voluntary return process in the Nineveh Plain and Sinjar."
He called on the federal government to "implement the Sinjar agreement to provide for the return of the Yazidis, as there are more than 300,000 displaced Yazidis in the Kurdistan Region, awaiting the implementation of this agreement."
