An oil expert criticized what was revealed by the decision of the Minister of Natural Resources of the Kurdistan Region, Kamal Muhammad Salih, to allow all companies to import gasoline for the public interest to prevent price increases and prevent the export of gasoline from the region.

Yadkar Kalali, the supervisor of the "Runbin" organization specialized in energy, stated in a post followed by "NAS", (July 27, 2023), that this late decision is positive, but it tells us the following:

1- Until now, gasoline imports have been monopolized by a number of companies.

2- Selling crude oil at a price of $40 less than the market price to private refineries, and it was exported outside the local market.

When selling crude oil at a discount in the local market, there are two purposes:

A- Supporting the market until the prices of petroleum products fall in the local market.

B- Re-collection of taxes from oil producing companies on this income.

Kalali added that in the Kurdistan region, unlike in the rest of the world, neither of these two goals was achieved, and the discounts came in favor of a number of private companies
