    {Local: Al Furat News} The Parliamentary Health Committee announced that the implementation of the health insurance law will start early next year 2024, noting that Iraq is waiting for a contract with an electronic automation company to start implementing the system.
    Majid Shankali, head of the Parliamentary Health Committee, said, "We have reached a very advanced stage in the health insurance law, and we are awaiting contracting with an electronic automation company to start implementing the system."
    He pointed out that "there was a tender that was canceled in order to start with a new type and a new mechanism, in order to reach the implementation of a program aimed at making the health insurance system a success in a very large way," usually, "the success of the health insurance system is the advancement of the health reality in Iraq."
    Shankali pointed out that "the registration started since the first of last February, and it was hoped that the application would start on the first of last July," adding: "We decided to postpone it so that its application would be electronic instead of being paper, which we are afraid of, so according to my belief we will start It will be implemented at the beginning of next year 2024.
    The House of Representatives had approved the health insurance law in October of the year 2020, which includes 12 chapters and 44 articles, with the obligation to apply it within 6 months after its approval in February of the year 2021 by the former President of the Republic, Barham Salih.
    Iraq did not succeed in applying the law within the legal period, due to the crises it witnessed throughout that period, with the general budget not being approved at the time, and the government formation stalled for more than a year after the October 2021 elections.
    It is expected that the provisions of the law will apply to Iraqis and foreigners residing inside the country, given that the law guarantees this through compulsory participation in health insurance, through insurance companies licensed and accredited by the Insurance Authority concerned with the application of the law.
    It is mentioned that the employee who contributes 1% of his monthly salary will be covered by the guarantee, in addition to his wife and children (under 18 years) and his parents who are not employees.
    The groups exempted from paying the monthly subscription are those covered by the social care system, those with cancer, mental illness, hereditary blood diseases, kidney disability, physical and mental disabilities, and autism, in addition to the disabled of all categories of the security forces, non-employee males, as well as retirees over the age of 60. Non-employee and retired females over 50 years of age, in addition to children under the age of five.
