    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday (August 30, 2023), the Ministry of Electricity announced that it would wait to import energy from Turkey, while setting the start date for the smart grid transformation project in the capital, Baghdad.
The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Musa, said in a press statement, followed by "Baghdad Today", that "the electrical connection with Turkey has been completed, but energy prices do not suit Iraq, so it was waited to put the Iraqi-Turkish link into effect."
And he continued, "The connection with Jordan will enter the first phase in the next few days, and it ranges from 50 to 150 megawatts. Today, the work of connecting the Al-Rishah station inside Jordan and the Al-Rutba station within the Anbar governorate has been completed, and there is also a connection that will be through the Al-Rishah station towards Al-Qaim." He explained, "The first phase is ready on the Iraqi and Jordanian sides, and the connection will enter into force soon. As for the second phase, the supply will reach 250 megawatts, and in the third phase, the supply will reach 960 megawatts."
Musa pointed out that "the Iraqi-Saudi connection has reached advanced stages, and it was agreed to identify a specialized consultant for this link, in addition to signing a memorandum of understanding," noting that "the work of examining and defining tracks and linking points began as a first stage between the two countries."
In a related context, Moussa explained, "The volume of energy produced and the daily energy rates are currently 24 thousand megawatts, and the system is witnessing a recovery and stability in production after a number of measures that the ministry followed, whether in generating units or transmission lines."
And he pointed out, "The improvement is clear and included all the governorates, while the processing in some of them reaches 16 hours and others less than that, due to the existing bottlenecks that the Ministry of Electricity is working to address by installing mobile and fixed stations or creating feeders to increase processing hours," explaining, "Karbala The Holy City, the most honorable Najaf, and Babylon witness an increase in their shares, given that they witness the peak of the fortieth visit of Imam Hussein (pbuh).
Regarding the electronic collection process, he pointed out that "the smart transformation project for the network will be discussed with the Prime Minister for the first and second time in order to reach a decision, and it may be initiated in early October of this year," noting that "the ministry has identified some areas in the capital, Baghdad, to implement the project." It will be in the form of experiments and a study of the extent of success in it, and then it will be circulated to other regions.”
