    Today, Thursday (October 12, 2023), a member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Mehdi Taqi, described the Turkish presidency’s request to extend the stay of its forces in Iraq as “an admission of its illegitimacy in the country .  ”
    Taqi told "Baghdad Today", "Extending the stay of Turkish forces in Iraq is unacceptable, and the request confirms that their presence is illegal and that the forces are considered occupiers because they are present on Iraqi territory without the knowledge and approval of the Iraqi government .  "
    A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee called on “the Iraqi government to move quickly to end the presence of any foreign forces, including Turkish forces,” noting that “any foreign presence is considered an occupation and the government must remove it by all possible means, as this presence threatens the stability of Iraq and violates the country’s sovereignty .  ”
    On October 5, 2023, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked the Turkish Parliament to extend the work and stay of his country’s forces in both Syria and Iraq for an additional two years, as the Turkish Presidency submitted a memorandum to Parliament, in which it said that “the risks and threats to national security “The developments and ongoing conflict in the areas adjacent to Turkey’s southern land borders are continuing to escalate .  ”
    In 2015, that is, about a year after the terrorist organization ISIS invaded some cities in Iraq, Turkey established new additional camps in the cities of Bashiqa, Soran, Golan Qalaat, and Zammar, and transformed its camp in the Harir area south of Erbil into a military base. It also built the Sidkan base, and opened Some headquarters are in the cities of Diana and Choman, which are close to the Qandil Mountains, in order to tighten control over the areas of Khanir, Khawkurk, and Kilashin, and to approach the locations of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party formations .
