The Director of Civil Defense, Major General Mohsen Kazem, explained that “the committee formed by the Ministry of Interior was able to identify 2,517 buildings at risk of collapse in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and the governorates,” noting that “these buildings were classified to determine their danger into three categories, the first of which concerns the most dangerous buildings that must be evacuated of residents.” The second and third categories include buildings that can be rehabilitated and the damage in them repaired.”

He pointed out that "there are strict measures taken by the Ministry to reduce incidents of building collapse or the use of violating materials that cause an increase in fire incidents, such as (sandwich panels), so it directed the removal of all buildings that use these materials," noting that "the number of violations monitored by the Directorate During the current year, there were 1,520 violations of the safety and security conditions set by the Civil Defense Directorate.

He stressed that "some of them were removed through the directorate's inspection teams through their continuous inspection tours of stores, shops, government buildings, and private sector buildings, in a way that ensures the preservation of citizens' lives."

Kazem warned that the reason for the collapse of buildings is due to the quality of construction or the improper methods used, stressing the role of municipalities in various geographical areas in following up on construction work, while at the same time holding the resident engineer a large part of the responsibility.
