    Economy News - Baghdad
The Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Jassem Al-Falahi, announced that the current government has allocated 90 billion dinars to confront climate change and address pollution.
Al-Falahi said in his speech during the first conference of the community team and support for the national initiative to support energy and reduce emissions, followed by “Al-Eqtisad News,” that “the current government has given the utmost importance to the issue of climate change by allocating 90 billion dinars to confront climate change and address pollution by exploiting associated gas to reduce carbon emissions.” As well as supporting farmers through the use of various regulated irrigation methods.”
He pointed out that he "hopes that the climate conference, which will be held for the period from the 30th of this month until the 12th of next month, will contribute to bringing about a realistic change in the climate scene in Iraq, in light of the announcement that the year 2030 will witness a reduction in dependence on fossil fuels and the adoption of clean energy." Instead, we encourage and develop the agricultural sector by using environmentally friendly spraying systems and relying on crops that require small amounts of water to be watered.”
In turn, the Director of the Central Quality Department at the Ministry of Electricity and Rapporteur of the National Initiative to Reduce Emissions Support Team, Shaima Al-Tamimi, said in a statement to the official Al-Sabah newspaper that “the team was able, during two years of its work, to double its members to 5,000 volunteers from various segments of society, most notably cultural elites, academics, and men.” Religion, and those who seek to educate society towards rationalizing water and electricity consumption.”
Al-Tamimi explained, “During the past two years, and after setting a vision and goals, the initiative team was able to prepare a study aimed at converting 600 government buildings, including 290 schools, to operate with clean renewable energy, in addition to the government giving great importance to the issue of climate change and combating pollution by allocating 90 billion dinars.” Within the 2023 budget, according to which solar systems will be installed to reduce pollution and reduce loads on the national grid, and the importance of switching to clean energy, solar panels will soon be installed on buildings after the completion of the referral phase.”
She added, "15,000 government institutions do not have electric meters, which doubles the amount of waste and loss of power, noting that the process of installing electric meters aims to know the amount of consumption by working on the Ur electronic platform to know the amount of energy consumed by each building."
It is noteworthy that Iraq will participate the day after tomorrow, Thursday, in the work of the climate conference that will be held in the United Arab Emirates, with a wide international presence represented by 90,000 participants and 88 heads of state, kings and princes, in addition to 182 ministers at the Earth Summit on Climate Change.
Through a paper prepared by specialized experts, Iraq prepared clear goals and visions, including several problems, most notably drought, declining water reserves, and lack of rainfall, in addition to increasing evaporation rates against the backdrop of rising temperatures, in addition to the problems of external displacement.
