    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The Turkish company Tupras confirmed today, Thursday (January 11, 2024), that the ship St. Nicholas, which was detained by Iranian forces in the waters off the coast of Oman, was carrying an Iraqi crude shipment from Basra that was sold by the state-owned Iraqi Marketing Company (SOMO). .
Tupras told Reuters, "The aforementioned tanker carries about 140,000 tons of crude oil, which Tupras purchased from the Iraqi state oil company SOMO and was on its way from the port of Basra to our refinery."
The Vezel Finder ship tracking website, which Baghdad Al-Youm reviewed, shows that the St. Nicholas ship departed from the ports of Basra last Monday, loaded with Iraqi oil and headed to Turkey, before it was hijacked in the Gulf of Oman 28 hours ago.

Earlier today, two American military officials confirmed that Iranian military forces seized an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman.
Fox News reported, citing US officials, that the detained ship, formerly known as the Suez Rajan, was once the focus of another dispute between the United States and Iran, which ultimately led to the seizure of more than a million barrels of Iranian crude oil by America. .
According to reports, “Naval forces belonging to the Iranian army boarded this ship on Thursday morning and detained it.”
According to this report, Iran’s seizure of this ship comes just one day after the Houthis (Yemeni Ansar Allah) carried out their largest attack to date on international shipping lines in the southern Red Sea.”
Earlier, the Iranian Army Navy announced, on Thursday, “that the Iranian Navy seized an American oil tanker by judicial order.”
A statement by the Iranian Army Public Relations Department stated, "In May last year, the Suez Rajan oil tanker stole the oil cargo belonging to the Islamic Republic under the direction of the United States and transported it to the ports of that country and made it available to the United States."
The statement added, "This oil tanker, renamed Nicholas ST, was carrying oil in the Sea of Oman, and was seized this morning by order of the Iranian judiciary and the approval of the Ports and Shipping Authority by the Strategic Navy of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in response to the theft of oil by the regime." The ship was transported to the ports of the Islamic Republic to be handed over to the judicial authorities.
