    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Member of Parliament Baqir Al-Saadi confirmed today, Friday (January 19, 2024), that the Sudanese government will finance 4 projects to enhance Iraq’s position in clean energy.
Al-Saadi said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Producing electricity through solar energy, or what is known as clean energy, is a strategy adopted by the Sudanese government, and there are 4 important projects funded by the government in their early stages in order to continue strengthening this sector and providing part of the needs of the national system."
He added, "There are efforts to launch a strategy that supports the culture of solar energy in homes and institutions and seek to reduce costs and allow the government to enter through banks in granting loans with soft interest, especially to owners of agricultural and industrial projects, which reduces dependence on the national system and opens the doors of investment in multiple directions."
He pointed out that "solar energy in Iraq is successful, but it needs to formulate a comprehensive strategy by opening up to international companies and attracting them to open branches in Baghdad and the rest of the provinces, while reducing costs as much as possible in order to increase demand for it."
Iraq has signed contracts to produce more than 7,000 megawatts of solar energy, as part of a plan that aims to produce more than 10,000 megawatts of solar energy by 2025, which may constitute about a third of Iraq’s electricity production.
