    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Friday (February 2, 2024), a member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Shakur Karim, revealed the fact that there was a veto on the opening of three files in Iraqi state institutions.
Karim told "Baghdad Today", "The initial evaluation of the work of the Integrity Commission is good. It is active in following up on many files, and there is already work taking place in the field, but we do not have a path to evaluate its current role in recent years, but in general it is doing its best."
He added, "There is real government support for integrity and there is an official letter issued by the Prime Minister for all bodies and ministries to cooperate because combating corruption is an essential part of the government's program and a step that helps in the success of its goals," pointing out that "all ministries have corruption files without exception." .
Karim pointed out, “Important and large files will be opened during the coming months, and there is no political veto on opening one or more files. Our work will be without exception, and there is direct support from the Prime Minister for integrity,” pointing out that “the task is not easy and is complex, but Its results will have positive repercussions in correcting paths and preventing corruption and wasting public money from the corridors of state institutions.”
The head of the Integrity Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, had previously reviewed, last November, in a forum held by the European Union mission in Iraq on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, Iraq’s achievements in combating corruption during the year, noting that “the unprecedented increase in the pace of criminal seizures It is noteworthy that it led to the throwing of officials and special ranks behind the bars of justice, and the return of some of the proceeds of corruption from the corrupt.
Until mid-2023, according to the semi-annual report of the Integrity Commission, the funds recovered by the Supreme Anti-Corruption Commission amounted to more than 382 billion dinars, and the waste of more than 82 billion dinars was prevented, while the funds that were prevented from being wasted by the Integrity Commission amounted to about 920 billion dinars. The recovered funds amounted to more than 91 billion dinars, in addition to more than 4,000 recruitment and more than 3,000 arrest warrants and arrest warrants for flagrante delicto.
