    Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed today, Thursday (March 7, 2024), that the government formation includes three female ministers along with women executive leaders, while indicating that the government is working to address the issue of combating violence against women.
    Al-Sudani’s media office stated in a statement received by “Baghdad Today,” that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani received an elite group of Iraqi women working in various fields, in a dialogue session held on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which falls tomorrow, March 8,” in advance. Congratulations to Iraqi women on celebrating their anniversary, and welcome those attending this meeting.”
    According to the statement, the Prime Minister affirmed “the Supreme Council for Women’s keenness to maintain dialogue with feminist elites, as part of the government’s direction to pay attention to the reality of Iraqi women,” noting that “the government’s composition includes three female ministers, in addition to the presence of women executive leaders with a high degree of integrity and diligence.” Pointing to "feminist figures who have achieved brilliant successes in various fields, he explained that women were present in most aspects of the government program."
    He pointed out, “The Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs, which is currently working to add women to its membership from various specializations and in accordance with approved standards, to be a station for communicating with women and implementing programs and initiatives that advance the status of women,” stressing “the government’s interest in addressing poverty and unemployment and enhancing job opportunities.” and education for women, as well as addressing the issue of combating violence against women,” pointing to the “National Strategy for Women 2023-2030, which will work to empower women in many areas.”
    In his response to the laws supporting women, Al-Sudani referred to “the constitutional texts concerned with women’s rights, legislative decisions before 2003, which are still in effect, and international agreements that need laws to regulate them. This is a package of laws about which the Supreme Judicial Council was addressed, and the Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs Women will adopt a special workshop on legislation related to women’s rights and the advancement of their status.”
    The Prime Minister affirmed, "The government's readiness to support any Arab or international feminist event or activity held in Iraq, in a way that contributes to informing the world of our growing reality, away from the misinformation operations that harm the image of Iraq."
