Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]The Turkish Orsam Center for Middle Eastern Studies held a symposium entitled “A New Phase in Turkish-Iraqi Relations,” while Uytun Orhan, the Center’s Levant Studies Coordinator, pointed out the importance of the economic, political, and security dimensions in relations between Turkey and Iraq.[/rtl]
[rtl]On the other hand, Bilgay Duman, coordinator of Iraq studies at the center, said that the development road project could have regional, not just economic, impacts.[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that the importance of the development road project increases in view of the current global crises that occupy the international agenda, such as the situation in the Red Sea and the European energy crisis.[/rtl]
[rtl]The "Development Road" project includes land roads and railways, and extends from Iraq to Turkey and its ports, and starts from the port of Al-Faw in the Gulf of Basra (southern Iraq), with a length of 1,200 kilometers inside Iraq, and will be linked to the Turkish railway network.[/rtl]
[rtl]He explained that the recent visit of the Turkish delegation, consisting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, and the head of the Intelligence Service, to Baghdad, may reflect positively on the relations of the two countries.[/rtl]
[rtl]He added that the security meeting that took place between Turkey and Iraq on March 14 resulted in the decision to establish joint permanent committees in 7 areas: combating terrorism, trade, agriculture, energy, water, health, and transportation.[/rtl]
[rtl]In turn, Ibrahim Aydin, advisor to the head of the Orsam Center, touched on the importance of Iraq to the region, saying: “Iraq’s security and permanent stability are extremely important to the well-being of all countries in the region.”[/rtl]
[rtl]Aydin stressed that the security dimension is important in relations with Iraq, adding: "It is necessary to clearly realize what the threat posed by the presence of the PKK terrorist organization in Iraq means for Turkey and the countries of the entire region."[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that the threat of the terrorist PKK organization is not limited to Turkey only, indicating that the activities of the terrorist PKK would divide Iraq, and the leaders of Baghdad must realize this matter.[/rtl]
[rtl]The representative of the Iraqi Turkmen Front to Turkey, Muhammad Gutlu Han, expressed his dissatisfaction with the absence of a Turkmen member in the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani.[/rtl]
[rtl]He said in this regard: “Although the relations between the Turkish and Iraqi governments are good, and although we know of the positive view of the current Iraqi Prime Minister towards the Turkmen, the absence of a Turkmen member in this government saddens us.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He added: "All terrorist organizations that want to take measures against Turkey target the Turkmen in Iraq and the areas most affected by terrorist attacks in Iraq are the Turkmen regions," according to Anadolu.[/rtl][/size]
