    Shafaq News/ The Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, called on Wednesday to speed up the disclosure of the results of the investigation into the incident of running over students in Al-Hartha district, north of Basra Governorate, in light of the committees that were formed yesterday, to find out and hold accountable those who were negligent in this tragic incident, and to mobilize efforts. Possible medical treatment for the wounded.
    In a statement today, Al-Mandalawi called on all heads of local governments to work to secure the vicinity of schools and take measures for complete safety, by imposing safe crossing zones and pedestrian bridges, in addition to the necessary coordination with the General Traffic Directorate and the concerned authorities regarding preventing large trucks from passing on the roads. Surrounding schools during official working hours, and requiring all vehicles to have a specific speed that is not allowed to be exceeded while driving near schools and populated areas.
    Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, directed the Minister of Education to go to Basra Governorate and investigate the repercussions of the incident in the Al-Hartha district, in which a number of students were killed.
    According to a statement issued by Al-Sudani’s office, the minister is also following up on “the investigation into the details and causes of the accident, and the rapid measures required to ensure that such tragedies are avoided, as well as supporting the families of the victims and standing by their side as they go through difficult times that call for solidarity and condolences.”
    For her part, the representative of the “Al-Sadiqoun” parliamentary bloc, Zainab Al-Moussawi, called on the Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, to hold an emergency session on the “Haritha” incident and to host the Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, and other local officials.
    Al-Moussawi said, in a statement, “The Al-Haritha incident is not the first of its kind, but there have been many cases of running over primary school students, and this is the result of mismanagement of Basra Governorate.”
    She added, "The Al-Haritha incident reveals to us the extent of financial corruption in Basra Governorate and the inability of the executive authorities, starting from Governor Asaad Al-Eidani to the municipal officials in the governorate, to show great failure in managing the most important governorates of Iraq in terms of oil, in addition to being Iraq's economic gateway."
    Al-Moussawi called on the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, to allocate “an emergency session very soon, specifically before Eid Al-Fitr, to host Al-Eidani, governorate officials, and the mayor of Al-Haritha to find out the reasons for not building pedestrian crossing bridges on the highway in Al-Haritha.”
    The Ministry of the Interior announced yesterday, Tuesday, the second of April, that the Basra Governorate Police arrested the driver of a refrigerator truck who ran over 6 students from a school, leading to their death and wounding 14 others with various injuries in the Al-Hartha area, north of the governorate.
