The Parliamentary Integrity Committee announced that the House of Representatives is in the process of voting on the law to recover smuggled funds, while indicating that the law will enable the Integrity Commission to carry out its procedures smoothly.
Committee member Alia Nassif said in a statement followed by Mawazine News: “The Integrity Commission is truly working with a qualitative leap in its procedures, whether at the level of tackling corruption at home and prosecuting corrupt people abroad,” indicating that “the Commission has signed several preliminary protocols with countries in order to confront corruption.” And spoilers, and recover money and people in coordination with other ministries.”
She added, "These measures came in solidarity with the 2008 Anti-Corruption Convention," noting that "the House of Representatives is in the process of voting on the law to recover funds smuggled abroad, which will further enable the Integrity Commission to recover funds."
She stressed that "any preliminary memorandum or any agreement with some countries that do not join the Anti-Corruption Convention requires the legislation of a national law, and in order for Iraq to exit the gray situation in the global classification, the requirements for exiting this classification is the legislation of the law for the recovery of funds smuggled abroad."
She pointed out that "this law contains many articles that enable the Integrity Commission to carry out its procedures smoothly," explaining that "there are some countries where smuggled funds are present, but by legislating this law and concluding agreements it is possible to facilitate the success of the Commission."
She stated that "the Integrity Commission is serious about confronting corruption, and the head of the Commission has a very high professionalism in recovering funds and combating corruption."
