    Economy News - Baghdad
On Saturday, the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, called for mobilizing energies in preparation for the upcoming summer season in order to provide reliable and stable electrical energy to citizens.
His media office stated, in a statement seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the Minister of Electricity inspected, today, Saturday, the Al-Sadr gas power station in Baghdad, as part of his inspection tours to see the progress of maintenance and rehabilitation work in the production stations before the arrival of the summer peak season.”
According to the statement, the minister held “a meeting with the officials of the station, which consists of four production units with a total capacity of (636) megawatts,” pointing out that “topics related to maintenance work and the most prominent obstacles in the work were discussed and solutions were developed in order to complete the work according to the timelines.” specified.
The Minister of Electricity conducted a field tour of the station's sections and reviewed the rehabilitation work carried out on the units by experts from the German company Siemens and the ministry's staff.
Fadel praised "the efforts of the engineering and technical teams to increase the efficiency of production stations and increase generating capacities," calling for "mobilizing energies in preparation for the upcoming summer season in order to provide reliable and stable electrical energy to citizens."
Regarding increasing the production of electrical energy, the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, discussed, earlier this month, with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Affairs, accelerating the implementation of the memorandum of cooperation concluded recently in Washington to supply the electrical system with 3,000 thousand megawatts.
The Ministry of Electricity stated in a statement, a copy of which was received by Al-Ghad Press, that “Fadil received, in his office today, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Affairs, Jeffrey Payatt, in the presence of the US Ambassador to Iraq, and they discussed cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy. The Minister reviewed the Ministry's projects that it is implementing in the production, distribution and transportation sectors, and its plans to diversify sources of energy supply through a package of electrical interconnection projects and other projects in the field of clean energy.
The statement added, "The meeting touched on the role of American and foreign companies in contributing to modernizing the infrastructure of the electricity sector in Iraq, and the minister referred to the contracts concluded with the company (GE) to rehabilitate and maintain production stations for a period of 5 years, as well as converting gas stations from "Simple courses to complex courses currently implemented by the American company in more than one location in Iraq."
The Ministry pointed out to "discussing the acceleration of steps to implement the provisions of the memorandum of cooperation concluded during the recent visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to Washington, including supplying the electrical system with approximately 3,000 thousand new megawatts through the implementation of new energy projects."
According to the statement, the Minister of Electricity called on American companies to “submit their offers for the smart transformation project in the electrical system, which the Ministry is implementing in several selected areas of Baghdad and the governorates as a first stage,” anticipating its “contribution to improving the performance of the electrical network and ensuring supply hours for citizens around the clock.” 24 hours a day.”
For his part, the American official stressed "Washington's interest in supporting the Iraqi government's steps in enhancing the performance of its electrical system, and moving towards investing in clean energy projects suitable for the environment." ‏
