    Baghdad Today - Tehran
A military official in the Iranian army command denied, on Monday (August 12, 2024), what was reported by Western media outlets about Tehran’s intention to launch a military attack on targets believed to be Israeli in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq.
The source, who requested anonymity, told Baghdad Today, "What the British Telegraph reported last Friday about allegations that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is pushing for a missile attack on Tel Aviv, but that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian suggested targeting centers linked to Israel in the Republic of Azerbaijan or Iraqi Kurdistan and informing these countries before the attack, is all false information."
He added, "The assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh took place in a manner far from Iraq (Kurdistan Region) or the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is neighboring Iran."
In a related context, Azerbaijani official media denied, on Monday (August 12, 2024), the presence of foreign forces in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani APA Agency published a statement in response to reports about the presence of elements of the Israeli army in this country and Georgia, in which it confirmed that “there is no truth to these reports and that there are no foreign soldiers on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
The statement read: Iran International Network, Telegraph Newspaper and Kan News Agency attempted to falsify information that does not conform to international journalistic standards.
The Azerbaijan Republic Media Foundation stated in its statement: “There is no military force of a foreign state on the territory of Azerbaijan, and we strongly condemn the manipulation of information based on false information in this regard. This information was published with the aim of misleading domestic and international public opinion.”
The British newspaper The Independent revealed yesterday, Sunday (August 11, 2024), the existence of what it described as “major differences” between the newly elected Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, regarding the best way to respond to Israel’s assassination of the director of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran last week.
The newspaper said in a report translated by "Baghdad Today" that "the leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard want to carry out a broad and direct military strike against Israeli military bases and cities, while the new Iranian president prefers to target the (secret bases) of the Israeli Mossad in the region, especially Iraq."
She explained that "the Iranian president, whom she described as moderate, believes that a direct response to Israel will drag Iran into an open war that the Iranian government does not want to fight, which makes targeting its secret bases in the region possible and enables Iran to respond to Israel in a painful manner without dragging it into an open war, but the Revolutionary Guard leaders reject that."
The newspaper stated that "the Iranian Revolutionary Guards believe that the assassination that took place in Tehran, which targeted Haniyeh, is an insult to Iranian sovereignty and requires a direct and massive response to Israel directly."
It is noteworthy that the Iranian government vowed to respond to the assassination of Haniyeh directly and effectively, which raised concerns among the leaders of the region that it would lead to an open war between Iran and Israel.
