    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Iranian Member of Parliament for Isfahan Province, Elham Azad, said today, Friday (January 19, 2024), that “the Islamic Republic has never thought of attacking any country, let alone Iraq, a friendly country that has many things in common with Iran.”
Elham Azad spoke to "Baghdad Today" about the missile attacks launched by the Revolutionary Guard last week targeting Erbil Governorate in northern Iraq, which angered the Iraqi government and political forces, in addition to condemning statements by the Kurdistan Regional Government.
She stated, "The actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran are a legitimate defense and should not be considered a deliberate attack aimed at violating the sovereignty of Iraq, Pakistan, or Syria," adding, "It is a legitimate and preventive defense against terrorist attacks."
Referring to the missile operation carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Elham Azad said: “The overwhelming action carried out by the Revolutionary Guard with Khyber Shekhan missiles in response to the terrorist crime in Kerman on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Qassem Soleimani, sparked people’s joy, and we appreciate the dear ones in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.” .
She continued: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly asked officials of the central government in Iraq, as well as officials of the Kurdistan region, to prevent the activity of separatist and terrorist elements and groups active against the Islamic Republic of Iran through the application of regional sovereignty.”
Azad explained, "Iran has expressed its strong objection to the Kurdistan region hosting these opposition groups and allowing them to move against Iran from the territory of Iraq. We have sent official memos and held many meetings in Tehran, Baghdad and Erbil, so the Islamic Republic cannot accept it being near its borders." "Threateningly."
The Iranian parliament member said: Given the serial nature of the illegal action carried out by the Zionist regime and the presence of evidence from official authorities of the continuation of this illegal action, the behavior of the Islamic Republic of Iran was a legitimate defense because it is an inherent right in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and it should not “This is considered a violation of the countries’ sovereignty, but the series of illegal actions makes Iran’s actions legitimate and legal in the form of a legitimate defense in international law.”
In the end, Azad said: “Iraq and Pakistan are friendly countries and neighbors of Iran, and Iran has had historical bilateral cooperation with these two countries, and Iran has never and will never attack the sovereignty and territorial integrity of these two countries.”
