    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed, today, Friday (August 30, 2024), that the handover of security to the governorates will be completed completely next year, noting that the security challenges have decreased by 70%.
Committee member Yasser Iskandar said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The handover of the security of the provinces to the Ministry of Interior is taking place according to an objective reading by joint committees that take into consideration the challenges, circumstances, and mechanisms of actual implementation," stressing that "the procedure reflects an important transition in the management of the security of the provinces and the pushing of army forces to the perimeter and the empty spaces."
He added that "some governorates have officially resolved the issue of handing over their security file, while others are waiting, but overall the file will be resolved in 2025 according to a comprehensive vision," noting that "accelerating the pace of handover comes through reducing security challenges, namely terrorism, other crimes, and crises, which have been reduced by 70%."
Iskandar pointed out that "the security situation in Iraq is stable and the level of safety is increasing day after day, despite some violations being recorded from time to time, but they are subject to control and containment within a short period."
The Ministry of Interior has received the security file in 6 governorates, and it is hoped that Anbar, Nineveh, and Salah al-Din will be received soon, as well as two additional governorates, so that the total will be 11 governorates by the end of this year, while receiving the security file in Baghdad, Kirkuk, Basra, and Maysan will be postponed until next year, as these are the governorates that include the presence of operations commands.
