The Ministry of Education is preparing to announce that state institutions are free of illiterate employees.
The official spokesman for the Executive Authority for Literacy in the Ministry, Mu’ayyad Al-Ubaidi, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The Authority has launched many campaigns to eradicate illiteracy during the past years, in addition to its contribution to opening centers in this regard in state institutions since the year (2016).
He added that the agency is preparing to announce soon that state institutions are free of illiterate employees during the current (13) batch, especially after a large number of them joined literacy centers within their institutions, noting that registration is still ongoing.
Al-Obaidi added that government institutions are showing great cooperation regarding registering their illiterate employees, especially after achieving good results in eliminating illiteracy among the Ministry of Oil employees after a large percentage of them were illiterate, as centers were opened for them within their institutions, in addition to the security institutions, noting that illiteracy among their employees was treated to a great extent.
He pointed out that there is great support from some international organizations for educational programs in the country, noting that the number of illiterate people affiliated with state institutions, including employees of all ministries, has reached about 34 thousand, stressing that this number has been decreasing successively for eight years after it exceeded, according to statistics received from the ministries, (65) thousand, and all of them were distributed as illiterate students, semi-educated people, or community centers.
