    Denied the parliamentary security committee, yesterday, the presence of an Iraqi scheme to build a nuclear reactor offline, and attributed this to the economic situation through which the country and the preoccupation with the war against al Daesh.

    Under the Commission Act on the following: 
     (Article 2 / I): ensure the use of atomic energy and its applications in peaceful areas and all related works and handling of nuclear materials and management of radioactive waste safely stored in accordance with the laws and regulations regulatory, as well as keep up with scientific and technological development in the world this area so as to contribute to the consolidation of the basic components of development in Iraq and theestablishment of a legal framework. 
    It also provides (Article 1.3) that: established under this law body called ( the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission), has a moral personality, represented by the President of the Commission or his nominee and linked to the Council of Ministers. 
    According to (Article 4 / I) to: propose policies, projects and programs in all the peaceful uses of atomic energy and the implementation of national commitments under international conventions and treaties concerning the functions of the Board, which would contribute to national development. 
    Under international sanctions imposed by the Security Council following the second Gulf War in 1991, it isprohibited for Iraq engage in nuclear activities or dual purposes. 
    Iraq has begun, the mid - seventies of the last century, serious efforts to create a nuclear program for research purposes, with the help of French experts. 
    And it led a raid by Israeli aircraft in June 1981 destroyed the nuclear reactor in July, which was under construction southeast of Baghdad. Iraqi nuclear installations also came to destroy the destruction in 1991, was dismantled the rest of the infrastructure and equipment after 2003 
    and denied the Commission on Security and Defense parliamentary and there are plans for Iraq to build now anuclear reactor, and attributed this to the economic situation through which the country and the preoccupation with the war against al Daesh. 
    The MP said Majed al - Gharawi, a member of the Security Commission, said that "Iraq is not planning to build a nuclear reactor," citing " the economic situation through which the country and the preoccupation with the war against al Daesh." 
    Ghraoui confirmed, in an interview with (long - Presse), that " the essential building a nuclear reactor forpeaceful purposes in the future and to generate energy , " pointing to "study the possibility of establishing asmall Iraqi nuclear reactor for peaceful purposes in the future, and then develop it gradually." 
    The Iraqi government reinstated in 2003 after the formation of the "National Atomic Energy Commission," as an independent body, and took it upon themselves to radioactive contamination, wipe the areas affected by nuclear radiation, as well as provide consultation to the government on Civil and research use of nuclear energy. 
    For his part, MP Abbas al - Bayati, a member of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, said that "Iraq does not intend to create a nuclear reactor despite the fact that international laws allow him to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes does not prohibit him create a nuclear reactor for peaceful purposes." 
    The al - Bayati, told (long - Presse), that "Iraq does not need to create such a reactor, because the use ofIraq 's Atomic Energy limited and restricted to medical purposes," adding that " the Atomic Energy Authority in Iraq will take over the task of monitoring the nuclear file for peaceful purposes and uses . " .
