Arab tribes in Kirkuk demand the city to be under KRG rule

They support raising the Kurdistan flag in the city

Erbil (BasNews) Al-Janbeen Arab tribe in Kirkuk stated their support for affixing the city to Kurdistan Region.

Jawad al-Janabi, the representative of Al-Janabeen tribe in Kirkuk, told BasNews “Raising the Kurdistan flag in Kirkuk was one of their[Arabs] requests, because the Peshmerga forces, under this flag, protected the city.”

“We as al-Janabeen tribe consider Kirkuk as an inseparable part of Kurdistan Region,” asserting that raising the Kurdistan flag in the city is legal and it has to be hoisted alongside the Iraqi flag on the government institutions across the city.

Kirkuk provincial council voted on Tuesday in favour of the decision by governor Najmaddin Karim to install the Kurdistan flag alongside the Iraqi flag on the government buildings in the city.

Sheikh Masrour Naji, head of al-Jabouri tribes in Kirkuk, also told BasNews “we as Jabouri tribe, along with other Arab tribes, are for the decision of raising the flag of Kurdistan over the government buildings in Kirkuk.”

Sheikh Naji added that the majority of Kirkuk Arabs endorse the decision except a number of Arab officials who object to it for personal interests.
