The first initiative to read after the liberation of the city .. The people of Mosul launch the largest table of books against dark ideas

     Mosul / Saleh Elias

Mosul This city, which survived the war jams with heavy losses in human beings and buildings, is witnessing serious attempts to restore life, adopted by young men and women away from the cloak of politicians and priests, the last was the first reading festival in Mosul.

In the shadow of one of the most important libraries in Iraq, which was burned by a hasty organization, long tables of thousands of books were set up. A huge crowd of women, men and children stand up at the festival, a cultural event of the first kind.

The capital of the festival: 14 thousand books
battle against extremism and terrorism not only resolved by weapons, but also this, said Ibrahim al-Taie, a member of the Preparatory Committee of the festival, raising one of the books on the long festival tables, which gathered around thousands.
Where we have collected more than 14 thousand books in various fields of Iraqi and Arab publishing houses, and we have assigned about seven thousand of them to the Central Library at Mosul University and specialized libraries, as well as the Technical University in Mosul and the library of the peace hospital in the city.
The other half of the books were distributed to the public free of charge, and may be an opportunity never before in Mosul. Today the residents left their homes and returned to their books, literature, history and politics, while their children were browsing stories suitable for their age. A large carton of children's books on the tables.
The location of this festival was very symbolic. It was next to the central library, which was burned by a pre-emptive organization before it fled to Iraqi forces in February. The cameras, wherever they went, took pictures of the devastation caused by the war. At the same time, .
"What was achieved was a volunteer act that we accomplished with organization and collective action," says Kanaan al-Houri, the financial director of the festival, to about 50 young men and women who are busy organizing.
We have not received any financial support. We have made sure that the capital of the festival is the book. We have received it free of charge from Iraqi and Arab publishing houses, notably Dar Sator, which was the biggest supporter of the festival.
The costs of book shipping, media promotion and organization requirements have been covered by contributions from my colleagues who are interested in supporting cultural and artistic activities in the city, Alhouri said.

10 thousand visitors and 16 policemen only!
It is also noteworthy that the civil character was dominating the festival in all its details, there was no official presence, we did not invite any official except the President of the University of Mosul d. Abi Al-Diwaijia because the event was held on campus, and military uniforms did not exist among the public.
The general supervisor of the festival, Dr. Tarek Kassar, said: "Our message is purely civilian. We did not distinguish between the attendees. There was no vip for everyone. We believe that this is what counts for the festival because we wanted it.
He adds, the important thing, the number of attendees exceeded 10 thousand people, five times more than we were planning, all without any military manifestations has attended only 16 policemen at the site of the festival, without any problem or breach, and we believe that this is an important signal Stating that Mosul lives under a favorable security situation for the return of life.

"The first and not the last" The
book was not alone, but it was full of music, poetry, drama and children's activities. The artist Amer Younis, the singer of Osman Al-Mawsli's band who performs traditional songs, After break for more than 3 years.
The great success of the festival, given that it has received extensive media coverage, has reinforced the plans of the festival's preparatory committee to make it an annual festival that is constantly working to support public and private libraries in Mosul and promote reading.
The First Reading Festival in Mosul has ended with an important success, but it will not be the last. We will continue to collect books from donors and deliver them to libraries in the city, as well as perpetuate the momentum of the media campaign on social media sites to promote reading. What has been achieved is confidence, our confidence in ourselves as we are today the initiators of the initiative, as well as the confidence of donors, beneficiaries and people, a very important success factor.
There is no doubt that such activity is very important in Mosul as important as construction and reconstruction projects. Unfortunately, civil activity does not correspond to a serious project adopted by the federal government towards Mosul, while the international community is still watching. To the extent of the destruction that has occurred in the city.
