Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki on Monday called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations General Assembly after the US veto against the Egyptian draft resolution on Jerusalem.
The United States vetoed Egypt's draft resolution on Jerusalem during a UN Security Council session on Monday.
All 14 members of the Council supported the draft resolution.
US envoy to the United Nations Nicky Healy said that her country used the veto to defend the role of the United States in the Middle East and its role in the peace process.
On Monday, the Palestinian presidency denounced the US veto against the Egyptian draft resolution, saying it was a mockery of the international community.
Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina said that the US veto in the UN Security Council against a draft resolution on the Trump Declaration recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is against the international consensus and contravenes the resolutions of international legitimacy and Security Council resolutions and represents a complete defiance of the occupation and aggression.
Abu Rudeina stressed that the veto would lead to further isolation of the United States and would constitute a provocation to the international community.
He stressed that his country will continue its movements in the United Nations and in all international institutions to defend the rights of the Palestinian people.
The United States objected to the Egyptian draft resolution, thus using the veto to Israel 43 times at the expense of Palestinian rights. Finished
