    Minister of Communications Hiyam Al-Yasiri confirmed on Wednesday that the ministry contracted with Vodafone International Company and not Vodafone Egypt, which is the parent company and has several branches in other countries.
    Al-Yasiri said in a televised interview followed by "Al-Eqtisad News" that the project includes establishing a national mobile phone company funded by the Iraqi government and its revenues go entirely to the government. Vodafone's role will be to cooperate with the government company, "Public Peace Company", in the operational aspects of the project in addition to training the cadres working in the government company and transferring expertise from the global company to the workers in the national company. Over time and gradually, the operational tasks will be transferred entirely to Iraqi hands.
    She explained that it came to the citizens' ears that Vodafone Egypt was contracted with, but in reality it is not the company that was contracted with is the global parent company and consists of several branches in different countries of the world, for example Vodafone Egypt, Turkey and Oman, and today we contracted with it in Iraq, indicating that in the future after completing the preparatory procedures and preparing for the launch of the project and reaching the establishment of Vodafone Iraq and obtaining this global brand.
    She explained that the company's current work is only to operate the national license project for mobile phones with fifth generation technology, which was granted to the Salam General Company, which is one of the formations of the ministry, and the license period is 15 years, extendable for another five years.
    She noted that the international company was chosen after the ministry studied the offers submitted to it by 22 other international companies specialized in communications, and the offer submitted by the international company Vodafone was accepted, which included the selection criteria on the size of the company in transactions, as well as the number of subscribers to the company, the company's capital, and its global solidity.
