BAGHDAD / The head of the energy committee in the Basra provincial council, Majeeb al-Hassani, said on Monday that the province had obtained understandings and preliminary agreements from the Gulf Interconnection Authority to supply Basra with electricity from the Gulf as the first stage of this huge project.
"Al-Hassani told" Iraq News "that" the province of Basra on a major breakthrough in the problem of electricity through the agreement and the recent understanding that occurred between the province and the Kuwaiti delegation is represented by the Gulf Linkage, in order to supply Iraq with electricity and make it a conduit for electricity lines to Turkey and Europe, "noting that" The first phase of this project according to the agreement that took place between the Ministry of Electricity and the Government of Basra and the Kuwaiti delegation is to supply Basra with electricity and fill the need, given the availability of all requirements in it.
He added that "there are some aspects of the project from the administrative and technical aspects will be discussed and resolved during the conference, which will be held in Kuwait early next month between the delegation of the Gulf Interconnection and a delegation from Iraq, in order to start the project," noting that "the supply of electricity to Iraq is compared to the raw gas Iraq will supply Kuwait The equation will be "gas versus electricity".
The Assistant Undersecretary of Transport Networks in the Ministry of Electricity and Water and head of the Kuwaiti delegation Jassem Al-Nouri said that "the link will have technical and economic benefits because it is one of the economic tributaries of the GCC countries under the many factors of assistance, most notably the distance between the province of Basra and the State of Kuwait."
