Two rebel factions oppose the government: a full withdrawal of US troops

    Baghdad / Range

The talk of reducing the number of international coalition forces in Iraq, mostly American soldiers, has been relegated to claims by some popular factions that US troops should be removed from Iraq.
Yesterday, the Badr Organization and the Hezbollah Brigades, two factions of the popular crowd close to Iran, called for a full withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
The International Alliance announced on Monday, reducing the number of troops in Iraq. A spokesman for the Iraqi government said on Monday that US forces had begun to reduce their numbers, but part of them would remain.
The claims of the two factions contradict the Baghdad and Washington plans to keep part of the troops for training and advice.
The Badr Organization considered that any US troops will remain in the country will be a source of unrest. "The coordination between the two governments should be for full withdrawal, not for survival ... because survival would expose the country to internal divisions and be a magnet for terrorism," Karim al-Nouri, a spokesman for the organization, told Reuters.
Hezbollah, a more militant and anti-American organization, has repeatedly threatened to attack US forces.
"We are serious about getting the Americans out of arms, because the Americans only understand this language," Jafar al-Husseini, the organization's spokesman, told Al-Mayadeen TV in Beirut.
The Hezbollah Brigades have threatened to attack US forces several times before and described their presence in Iraq as an occupation.
The US-led coalition has helped Iraqi forces recapture territory controlled by a nascent organization between 2014 and 2017 by providing air and artillery support in the battle to restore Mosul and train tens of thousands of Iraqi special forces troops.
The United States has more than 5,000 troops in Iraq.
"The coalition will reconfigure our forces in consultations with our Iraqi partners to ensure the permanent defeat of Daash," Brigadier General Jonathan Braga, commander of coalition operations, said in a statement on Monday.
Braga added that even if the composition of the forces is changed, the coalition will have the capacity and the presence necessary to continue to train and advise the Iraqi forces and provide them with weapons to ensure that the organization does not re-emergence.
US officials say Dahedash has lost most of the territory he controls in Iraq and Syria, but there are still fears that his fighters will return to tactics.
