The air forecaster and environmental activist Sadiq Attieh said he saw no quick solution to the salinity of the water in the city of Basra after a series of conferences and workshops on the subject.

"The situation in the city of Basra is waterlogging, which has become unbearable and requires a real serious pause from the federal government," Attieh said in a leaflet on his Facebook page.

He pointed out that the solution in his opinion is the first two points, by giving the city of Basra the full share of water Tigris, which exceeds the provinces of Maysan and Wasit, while the second point is the agreement on the establishment of a dam on the Shatt al-Arab to prevent the tide of the sea from the incursion into the coast, From Nazem Qal'at Salih you can not push the salty tongue.

Attiyah explained that he "does not see any quick solutions, stressing that the solutions, however, the federal government, while wishing to take things seriously because the visual street does not carry more burdens of life from the salinity of water and heat of the atmosphere and pollution and lack of electricity and unemployment."

The center of "marine sciences" at the University of Basra issued a report earlier this month, in which he confirmed that the waters of the Shatt al-Arab recorded an increase in salinity rates not seen for more than 10 years, noting that "water will be usable only after the completion of new projects, Because, according to WHO standards, salinity in water should not exceed 1000 ppm, a percentage that has been exceeded by the waters of Basra for a long time.
