The Canadian government has announced that it will take over the command of the NATO mission in Iraq for a year, noting that it will send about 250 soldiers and armored vehicles and four helicopters to train Iraqi forces.
In a statement quoted by Reuters and Sky Press, the government said that in preparation for Canada to take command of the NATO mission for a year to train and support Iraqi forces, it will send 250 troops, armored vehicles and four helicopters to Iraq.
"Canadian soldiers, led by Major General, will deploy from the fall of 2018 in the Baghdad area to help the Iraqi government build a more effective national security structure and develop training for Iraqi security forces," the statement said.
"The mobile training teams in support of NATO's anti-IED efforts have started to work," he said.
Asaib Ahl al-Haq, a member of the People's Assembly, announced its rejection of the presence of the international coalition forces in Iraq.
Naim al-Aboudi, spokesman for the movement, said in a press statement that "the presence of any military forces on the ground in Iraq needs parliamentary authorization, and we assume the presence of any combat force on the ground."
