    A newspaper in the Gulf revealed on Saturday that there is concern about the United States decision to withdraw its troops from Syria , indicating that Washington hasindicated that Iraq's security is a priority. 

    "There is concern over the decision to withdraw US troops from Syria," the newspaper quoted a political source as saying. "Control of the Iraqi-Syrian border requires sophisticated air cover to prevent the infiltration of terrorists." 

    "Iraq has demanded the United States to prevent a return," he said, adding that "Washington has confirmed that Iraq's security is one of its priorities."


    Last Wednesday, the United States announced that it had begun withdrawing troops deployed in Syria from the country.

    BAGHDAD ( 
    Reuters) - US Central Command chief General Joseph Fotel said on Saturday that the US decision to withdraw from Syria was within a timetable and that his country would continue to fight an insurgency in Iraq. 
    "The chief of staff of the army, Major General Othman al-Ghanmi, received a telephone call from Central Command Central Command General Joseph Fotel and during the call discussed the security situation on the Iraqi-Syrian border and the consequences of the withdrawal of troops," the statement said.
