US President Donald Trump's proposal on the federal budget for 2020 has been widely criticized for the decline in funds allocated to NASA in the proposed budget.
The US magazine Forbes said Trump is planning to destroy NASA, noting that the proposal, unveiled next year, shows a decline in the amount of money allocated to the agency.
The fiscal year begins in the United States of America in October each year.
The President shall prepare the federal budget proposal for each year before that date, to be submitted to Congress, which shall be approved by the President before it becomes effective.
"But what Trump wants to do is to impose the federal budget agenda and try to convince people of its terms," says the site, adding that the Trump administration has offered to cut off some NASA funds in this year's budget.
In response, the acting director of NASA, Robert Lightfoot, said that cutting the agency's budget meant that it would not be able to do anything, followed by Congress's refusal to cut the agency's budget and approve funds that would allow it to resume all its activities.
This year, there was a big difference between Trump and Congress, which refused to adopt the federal budget, causing a 31-day government shutdown over the past two months until it was adopted in February.
"This year, the attack against the agency (NAS) is worse, and there is a greater chance of success," said the site, adding that the proposal, which was announced will have disastrous consequences for the field of scientific research.
NASA's budget cuts will destroy many of the agency's important research programs.
According to the Washington Post, the proposed NASA budget in 2020 will be 2.3 percent lower than its current budget for 2019.
"The agency's budget allows it to stay on track to allow it to complete its tasks until 2028," NASA director Jim Braidstein told Reuters on Monday (March 11th).
The paper pointed out that the Agency's budget this year is 21 billion dollars, noting that this figure is greater than the figure, proposed by the Trump administration before being amended by Congress before the ratification of the federal budget .
