Trump calls Johnson: Britain's exit from the EU provides an opportunity to strengthen economic partnership between London and Washington
US President Donald Trump telephoned new Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the two sides expressed "their commitment to an ambitious free trade agreement and to start negotiations as soon as possible after the UK leaves the EU," a spokesman for the British government said.
The spokesman said in a statement that Trump and Johnson agreed that Britain's exit from the EU provides "an unparalleled opportunity to strengthen economic partnership between the UK and the United States."
The two leaders also discussed the current tensions in the Gulf region and spoke of "the need to work with partners and address Iran's destabilizing behavior in the Gulf."
