[size=45]BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said on Thursday he had warned incumbent Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi of "some elements in his office," amid massive protests in the country that killed dozens of demonstrators.
In an interview with "Sky News Arabia," Allawi said that the noose is tightening on the Iraqi government, while the country is going through a state of extreme turmoil, and it is difficult to predict what will happen in the next stage.
He added: "What is happening now reflects the weak performance of the government and the lack of communication with the demonstrators," referring to his attempts to hold meetings between President Barham Saleh and trade union bodies, but returned to say that Saleh does not have any executive power.
Allawi also pointed out that he spoke with Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, and warned him "of some elements in his office," which deepens the crisis, pointing out that he is communicating with protesters and the government to try to contain the crisis.
On the possibility of a national dialogue, Allawi explained: “The time for dialogue is over and gone forever. There is no dialogue under the influence of militias and the use of bullets. Those responsible for the killing of protesters must be held accountable first. ”
In a related context, Iraqi medical sources reported the killing of four protesters in Baghdad, after the security forces fired bullets to disperse the protesters. This came after groups of demonstrators cut the bridge of the martyrs in Baghdad again, hours after it was opened, as security forces tried to counter them.
Iraqi demonstrators continue to sit in Tahrir Square in Baghdad, cutting them to major bridges.
In Basra, the Iraqi government announced that the continuous closure of the port of Umm Qasr caused the suspension of the export of 90 thousand barrels of oil, and cost the state a loss of millions.
Baghdad had announced the return of operations to the port, before the protesters returned to close.
In the same context, the Prime Minister said that Iraq owes 13 trillion dinars between 2014 and 2019.
Abdul-Mahdi pointed out that his government is seeking to develop economic plans do not rely mainly on oil in the new budget.
