Trade: government measures to deter the phenomenon of high prices

On Thursday, the Ministry of Commerce identified the reasons for the increase in food prices during the holy month of Ramadan, while it revealed its measures to control prices.

Ministry spokesman Muhammad Hanoun said, "The prices of foodstuffs increased during the month of Ramadan, and the reason is due to the increased demand for them," indicating that "if the ration card is stabilized, there will be no price increases," according to "Wa '".

He added that "the commercial control in the Ministry of Trade is following the local market through organized mobile teams in cooperation with the National Security in order to prevent the rise in prices," noting that "the monitoring did not record the rise of all foodstuffs except for sugar and oil."

Hanoun attributed "the reason for this to the high prices of these two materials on the global stock exchange, as well as the presence of parties seeking to raise the prices of these two articles by imposing daily increases on prices," noting that "the Ministry of Trade announced that it was confronting this rise by pumping large quantities of oil And sugar, as two meals were distributed during Ramadan in order to prevent an increase in prices.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce suggested that "the government's measures to prevent the rise in prices will take greater curves in deterring this phenomenon legally and referring some of them to a fair judiciary."

And on the raw materials involved in the manufacture of sugar and oil, Hanoun explained that "Iraq does not have large raw materials for sugar and edible oil in a size sufficient for the needs of the Iraqi population," noting that "most of the raw materials come from Turkey, Ukraine and Brazil."

He added, "The local material on the market is mainly imported and is subject to the global stock market from low and high during the month of Ramadan."
