Today, Monday, the Presidency of the Republic condemned the attack that targeted a site on the Iraqi-Syrian border, killing a number of members of the Popular Mobilization Forces and wounding others, while stressing that the ongoing escalation undermines efforts to enhance security and stability.
A statement by the Presidency of the Republic, a copy of which was received by Mawazine News, stated, "The escalation is condemned, and it represents a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and national security and undermines existing national efforts to achieve and enhance security and stability," noting that "Iraq renews its refusal to be an arena for conflicts and axes, because It is inconsistent with international conventions.
He added, "The recent targeting and the previous bombing incidents on Erbil and in other areas are condemned and outlawed and do not serve the higher interest of the country," calling for "restraint, avoiding escalation and not being drawn into actions that do not serve the security and stability of Iraq and the region as a whole."
He pointed out that Iraq strongly supports, and through great diplomatic efforts, the paths of dialogue and communication with various parties in order to ensure its security, stability and full sovereignty, reduce tensions and crises in the region, and reject hostilities from any party and in any form.
