An informed source: a close agreement between the PYD and the regime under pressure from the PKK and with Turkish-Russian coordination
To hand over the area to the regime according to understandings at any cost
An informed Syrian Kurdish source revealed today, Thursday, that negotiations are taking place between officials of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Syrian regime, under pressure from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and under Russian supervision, to reach a final agreement on the fate of the areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The source said, "The Syrian Democratic Forces are under great pressure from the PKK and the Russians to reach an agreement with the regime as soon as possible, before any Turkish military operation in the north of the country."
The source added, "The PKK exerts great pressure on the (SDF) to hand over the area to the Syrian regime and reach understandings with it at any cost."
The source, who is close to the SDF, indicated that "the Russians, in coordination with Turkey, are pressuring the SDF to make major concessions to the regime in exchange for some rights for the Kurds," stressing that "Turkish threats to invade the region point in that direction."
The source, who refused to reveal his identity because he was not authorized to declare, explained that "serious negotiations are taking place between the SDF and the regime at all political, military, security, economic and cultural levels under Russian supervision and an American green light."
He stressed, "(The SDF) will have to make major concessions to the regime because of the pressures it is exposed to from the PKK, the Russians, the Turks, and the Americans," he said.
The source pointed out that "the United States of America is moving towards handing over the file of ISIS and the eastern Euphrates to the Russians, withdrawing from the region, and finding a solution to the file of (SDF) and the Kurds through an agreement with the Syrian regime."
He added, "Washington does not want to appear as if it has abandoned the Syrian Kurds in front of world public opinion, and therefore it wants to agree with the regime."
The source confirmed, "If an agreement is reached with the Syrian regime, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the security forces (Asayish) will be part of the regime's military system in the east of the Euphrates."
The source added, "The (SDF) negotiations are continuing with senior officials of the Syrian regime under Russian auspices, and the two parties will soon reach preliminary understandings about the fate of the (SDF), the Autonomous Administration and the bounties of the eastern Euphrates."
In this context, some observers believe that the pressures that the PYD administration is circulating from one side or that are nothing but pretexts to hand over the region to the regime, according to an agreement concluded between the two sides more than a decade ago, during the outbreak of events in Syria, when the regime handed over the administration of Western Kurdistan. For the PYD, and now it is time to restore the “Amanah.”
Observers also rule out that there are trends or currents within the PKK or its branches and organizations in Syria, as the whole system is unified, and what appears in public is nothing but the sharing of roles and functions only.
The prominent leader of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , had expressed his readiness to negotiate directly with the Assad regime, calling for transferring the dialogue related to Security Council Resolution 2254 from Geneva to the Syrian capital, Damascus.
Khalil's statements come a few days after another similar statement from the joint head of the Kurdistan Society (PKK leadership) [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , in which he had said that his party could not be opposing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, adding, "We have never severed our relationship with Damascus, if they do not rise." Khalil (known for being a leading man in West Kurdistan) said in a televised interview, on Monday: "Whoever rules in Damascus is the one who represents Syria in international forums. Therefore, to reach a solution, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ,” referring to the Assad regime.
He added, “We must think of another formula, where the solution must be discussed with the regime, but not in Geneva, but in Damascus. What prevents us from sitting down and discussing and proposing possible solutions to reach a formula for solving all issues together.”
The Assad regime had previously demanded that the negotiations on the Syrian file be transferred to the capital, Damascus, which Khalil called for, noting that "the Autonomous Administration and the Democratic Union Party are ready for direct dialogue without going to Geneva."
Khalil's talk comes within a path initiated by the officials of the PYD and the Autonomous Administration that he supervises, during the past few days, in conjunction with the Turkish threats to launch a military operation, which many sources say is imminent.
