     Baghdad: Esraa Al-Samarrai

The Ministry of Agriculture revealed the export of agricultural crops to the UAE, most notably potatoes, while talking about the existence of a "great abundance" in the production of fruits and vegetables.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Hamid Al-Nayef, said: "The ministry has succeeded in achieving food security for citizens by being able to provide most of the vegetables and fruits crops for the current season." He revealed that "there is an abundance of potato and tomato crops, and therefore, on the basis of this, coordination has taken place with the local markets of neighboring countries to export the potato crop," adding that "during the last few years, it was exported to the United Arab Emirates." Al-Nayef indicated that “the ministry has repeatedly called on the border crossings, with the support of the competent security services, to prevent the entry of potatoes because they are abundant locally, because the locally produced quantities of them cover the consumption of the citizens of the country completely,” returning the potato “a strategic crop whose production increased after implementing the ministry’s plan to protect the local product.” .
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Agriculture had approved the winter agricultural plan (2022-2021) for the irrigated areas by 50% compared to the area of the last winter season.
