Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken affirmed on Friday his country's commitment to helping Gulf partners improve their defensive capabilities against threats from Yemen and elsewhere in the region, and stressed the importance of mitigating harm to civilians.

And the US State Department said, in a statement, that Blinken made a phone call to Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, in which he affirmed the United States' condemnation of the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which targeted civilian sites in the UAE, including Abu Dhabi International Airport, and resulted in the killing and wounded civilians.

The US Secretary said, through his account on Twitter, that during the call, he stressed the United States' commitment to helping Gulf partners improve their defensive capabilities against threats from Yemen and elsewhere in the region, and stressed the importance of mitigating harm to civilians.

The Saudi Press Agency said that during the call, they "discussed the strategic relations between the Kingdom and the United States of America and ways to support and strengthen them in all fields to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples, in addition to exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest."
She added, "The two sides discussed intensifying coordination and bilateral work on many regional and international issues, foremost of which is strengthening security and stability in the Middle East, and efforts to lay the foundations for peace made by the two friendly countries in the region and the world."
