    News Agency / Follow up
Yesterday, Saturday, Iran welcomed the Saudi Crown Prince's recent statements regarding the neighborhood relations between the two regional rivals, saying that they showed Riyadh's "willingness" to resume diplomatic relations severed since the beginning of 2016.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that "what a high-ranking Saudi official said recently indicates their desire to build bilateral relations with Iran, and we welcome that," according to the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
And Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had recently said - to the American magazine "The Atlantic" - that the Iranians "are our neighbors, and they will remain our neighbors forever, we cannot get rid of them, and they cannot get rid of us, so it is better to solve things, and that We are looking for ways to coexist."
The Crown Prince added, "During 4 months, we had discussions, and we heard many statements from Iranian leaders, which were welcome to us in the Kingdom (...) and we will continue in the details of these discussions, and I hope that we will reach a position that is good for both countries, and constitutes a bright future for Saudi Arabia and Iran." ".
It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia severed relations with Iran in January 2016, after its embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad were attacked by protesters following the execution of the Saudi Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr.
    Dialogue in Baghdad
And last year, the two countries began to negotiate in Baghdad, with the aim of improving relations.
So far, the two sides have held 4 sessions between April and September 2021. Tehran said that holding a fifth round is subject to Riyadh's "seriousness."
Amir Abdullahian stressed that these talks "provided a good atmosphere and achieved results, albeit small, and we are pleased that Saudi Arabia has taken the path of dialogue."
"We have different opinions and approaches on some issues in the region, but managing differences between the two parties may serve the interests of both countries," he added.
The Iranian minister reiterated his country's position calling for an end to the war in Yemen and the adoption of "a political solution based on Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue, away from foreign interference."
Saudi Arabia and Iran are at odds in most regional files, most notably the conflict in Yemen, where Riyadh leads a military coalition in support of the internationally recognized government, and accuses Tehran of supporting the Houthi rebels who control large areas in the north of the country, most notably the capital, Sanaa.
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia is a traditional ally of the United States, which is considered an enemy of Iran.
Riyadh expresses its concern about Tehran's regional influence and accuses it of "interfering" in Arab countries, such as Syria, Iraq and Lebanon, and is apprehensive about its nuclear program and missile capabilities.
