On Wednesday, the Teachers Syndicate called on the Ministry of Education and the concerned authorities to solve the problems facing the educational process, including activating the Student Grant Law and preparing a plan to solve the infrastructure shortage.

The head of the Teachers Syndicate, Abbas Al-Sudani, said in an interview with the official newspaper, "The new school year will witness the registration of approximately one million and 400 thousand male and female students in the first primary."

He added, "This number is more than the outputs of the Ministry of Education for the sixth preparatory stage, which requires ambitious strategic plans to absorb these increases, and prepare correct educational methods that are commensurate with the variables of the educational reality in the country."

Al-Sudani stressed, “The union demanded the activation of the Student Grant Law, which has not seen the light since 2013, as it is of paramount importance to encourage them to continue education and reduce school dropouts,” adding that “the concerned authorities did not discuss the law in a serious manner and it was neglected along with the rest of the laws.” Almost 10 years ago, it was not addressed properly, as we seek to activate it with the start of the 2022-2023 school year.”

Al-Sudani pointed out that "the union has a set of demands to advance the reality of teachers and the educational process alike, by increasing salaries and providing housing, while facilitating their inclusion in loans, as they face difficulty in obtaining them due to the lack of their salaries."

He pointed to "the country's need to build 10,000 schools in all governorates to break the triple shift and make it bilateral," calling on the Ministry of Education not to rely on initiatives or aid for school buildings from some countries and international organizations, and to work on preparing a long-term plan to solve the problem of the shortage of school buildings.
