    Today, Thursday, the Border Ports 
    Authority put forward 4 recommendations to move forward with electronic governance, while stressing the need to continue with a well-studied program and plan to tighten control over the commercial process and achieve the transition from paper-based procedures to electronic ones. 
    A statement by the authority, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said that "the customs and border ports automation project team held its seventh meeting for the year 2022, headed by Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, head of the Border Ports Authority, and the participation of team members on today, Thursday, September 22, 2022."
    The statement added, "The head of the authority gave a detailed presentation on the electronic procedures provided by the Border Ports Authority in cooperation, coordination and integration with the General Customs Authority, the General Company for Land Transport, the General Company for Iraq Ports, the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, the General Directorate of Industrial Development and the General Company for Iraqi Exhibitions under direct sponsorship and support. From the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
    The statement indicated that "the meeting discussed the agenda, which included multiple paragraphs, through which the team reached important recommendations, most notably, first, the support of the General Customs Authority regarding its procedures with UNCTAD to implement (Scuda program) in the automation of customs procedures, where Al-Waeli stressed the need for concerted The efforts of all team members in providing advice and support and facilitating the procedures of the General Authority of Customs to achieve successes in this important file, and the Border Ports Authority expressed full readiness to introduce customs employees (free) development courses regarding work on the calculator and the development of electronic capabilities for automation in order to prepare cadres The Customs General Authority to initiate their electronic system.
    The statement continued, "The second recommendation included that the General Land Transport Company implement a field application for the electronic system project and the mechanism for applying the GPS system to trucks with the participation of all relevant departments in order to prevent smuggling operations or manipulation of public money resulting from the exploitation of government approvals for a purpose other than that granted by All goods related to exempted substances, dangerous chemical and dual-use materials, shipments of medicines and medical supplies, shipments of military weapons and shipments of transnational transport (transit) will be subject to the tracking system, in addition to the presence of a control room at the headquarters of the General Company for Land Transport in which the relevant departments are represented to follow up on the implementation mechanism. This system will have a major role in supporting the e-government process by showing the details of the shipment and determining its path starting from the point of initiation at the border crossing to the beneficiary.”
    And the statement continued, "Thirdly, the request of the Central Statistics Authority was approved for the General Authority of Customs to provide it with data of goods imported into the country in order to enable them to access accurate import data that can be relied upon in reading the country's commercial reality, while the fourth recommendation included emphasizing the General Authority of Customs the necessity of Adopting electronic payment and including it in its approved procedures with (UNCTAD) in accordance with the directives and instructions of the Central Bank of Iraq.
    The statement concluded that, "At the end of the meeting, all members of the team expressed their full readiness to provide the best and most sincere efforts to implement the directives of the Diwaniyah Order Committee 22 of the year 2020 concerned with e-governance and to continue with a well-studied program and plan to control the commercial process and achieve the transformation from paper-based procedures to electronic ones."
