    Today, Sunday, the Government Media Cell announced the approval of the Ministry of Water Resources’ irrigation plan for the next winter season, according to water storage, water year data and the significant effects of climate changes, in light of ministerial expectations regarding the pressure of water scarcity and expectations for its continuation for the fourth consecutive season.
    A statement by the cell and seen by "Economy News" stated that this comes, based on the directives of the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to develop immediate solutions to address water scarcity and indicators of the winter agricultural season, as the Ministry of Water Resources held a meeting of the opinion body headed by the Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Mahdi. Rashid Al-Hamdani, in continuation of the meetings of the Central Committee formed under the chairmanship of the head of the secretariat of the Supreme Commission for Coordination between the Governorates, and the membership of representatives of the Ministries of Water Resources and Agriculture and all governorates, the plan included through which:
    The statement explained that securing irrigation for 1.5 million acres of surface water for major rivers and agricultural areas is guaranteed for irrigation, taking into account the need to use modern technologies in agriculture, in addition to securing irrigation for 2.5 million acres of groundwater. For promising areas and according to the Ministry’s plan that supports and facilitates the procedures for drilling wells and maintaining and sustaining dozens of them, which relied on technical determinants and scientific studies in irrigation and optimal use of water, with the need to use modern technologies in agriculture, as well as providing irrigation for (1,100) million acres of orchards, While ensuring the provision of raw water for all liquefaction plants to produce drinking water, which is one of the priorities of the Ministry's work.
    The cell also indicated that the Ministry of Water Resources will hold a meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture, for the purpose of defining the agricultural plan for the upcoming winter season, which is consistent with the irrigation plan approved by the Ministry and to determine the areas and divide them between the governorates.
    The ministry called on local governments in all governorates to take their role in supporting the ministry and its relevant departments in all governorates, by preventing water quotas and filling in the bypassed fish lakes, hoping for cooperation and coordination from all to ensure fair water distributions.
    The cell added in its statement, that the aforementioned irrigation plan approved by the ministry, will provide irrigation for (5,100) million dunums, taking into account the provision of raw water for the main and approved liquefaction stations, provided that the ministries and relevant sectoral bodies bear all the consumptions.
    According to the statement, the Ministry of Water Resources, to the success of the next winter agricultural season, through the solidarity and cooperation of all, especially the water-consuming sectoral bodies in support of the national product and in support of the Iraqi farmer, reducing imports and depleting hard currency, in addition to the need for the Ministry of Agriculture to focus on agricultural yield as it is the key to achieving Being satisfied with the acceptable limit and ensuring the optimal use of water and the efficiency of irrigation by using modern technologies and adopting advanced methods in reducing water waste and controlling field irrigation.
    Thus, the Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for adapting its agricultural plan for the upcoming winter season, through the Central Committee, in line with the plan of the Ministry of Irrigation Water Resources in the conditions of water scarcity, weak water revenues and the nature of the water year to jointly reach, rapprochement and cooperation from all water-consuming sectors in order to mitigate the damage The citizen, due to water scarcity, must ensure the fairness of water distributions, and support all sectors according to the aforementioned water data, according to the statement.
