Shafaq News/ A prominent leader in the "Sovereignty" coalition revealed today, Sunday, the agreement of Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Al-Sudani to dissolve the "Accountability and Justice" body after the formation of his government.
The leader, who requested not to be named, told Shafaq News Agency, "The Sunni political blocs (Sovereignty and Azm) agreed with the Prime Minister-designate, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, during the negotiations to form the government, to dissolve the Accountability and Justice Commission after forming his government."
And he indicated that "Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Shia al-Sudani promised to solve accountability and justice four months after forming his government and transfer this file to the judicial authorities, to prevent it from being exploited for political liquidations," explaining that "this matter was the most prominent demands of the Sunni blocs during negotiations with al-Sudani."
And found the "Supreme National Commission for Accountability and Justice" and its former name "De-Baathification Commission", according to what was stated in the Iraqi constitution, which was established in 2005, and aims to uproot the ideology of the Baath Party and liquidate state departments of its members.
Article 7 of the Iraqi constitution states: “It is prohibited to any entity or approach that adopts racism, terrorism, infidels, or sectarian cleansing, or incites, paves, glorifies, promotes, or justifies it, especially the Saddamist Baath in Iraq and its symbols, under any name. This is within the political pluralism in Iraq, and this is regulated by law."
Through this article, the Accountability and Justice Commission was able to disqualify hundreds of candidates for the elections, and dismiss thousands of their jobs because of their affiliation with the banned Baath Party.
The US civil administrator of Iraq, Paul Bremer, had dissolved the Ba'ath party after the occupation of Iraq in 2003 and formed a committee called the De-Baathification Committee, then its name was changed to the Accountability and Justice Commission now.
The termination of the work of the Accountability and Justice Commission, the former "de-Baathification", is one of the most prominent demands raised by Sunni parliamentarians, which they return to targeting "national" competencies and cutting off the food and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi families affiliated with the security and intelligence services during the rule of the former regime.
