Today, Tuesday, the Parliamentary Family, Women and Children Committee revealed the most prominent articles of the Child Law that the House of Representatives seeks to approve during its current session, and while determining the penalty for exploiting children at work, it affirmed that the law guarantees protection for children and limits cases of violence.
The head of the Parliamentary Family, Women and Children Committee, Ibtisam Al-Hilali, said in a press statement, "The Child Law is old in the Family and Childhood Committee, but it was not voted on despite international demands and the Iraqi street," pointing out that "Iraq signed the Childhood Convention, but it did not have a law." To protect the child, there is an urgent need to move forward in the law and make amendments to it.”
She added that "the law includes child protection and the provision of education, in addition to a meal in primary schools, starting from the first to sixth grade, and this needs to be approved within the budget."
She pointed out that "there are several paragraphs to prevent the child from mixing and buying drugs and holding those who punish the child or commit a crime against him or those who seek to exploit the child in employment, and we have imposed a prison sentence from one to five years," noting that "the law stresses the need to find shelters." For children who are exposed to violence, we asked that the centers be under the supervision of the Ministry of Labor and international community organizations.
