Today, Friday, the Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed the existence of parliamentary calls and movement to amend the retirement law, raise the ceiling of minimum salaries, and raise the retirement age again.
Committee member Omid Muhammad said, “There are many parliamentary calls to amend the retirement law, raise the ceiling of the minimum levels of retirees’ salaries, and restore the age of the retiree to 63 years.”
He pointed out that “there are two axes for amending the law, which is either by collecting 10 signatures within the House of Representatives and presenting the amendment to the Presidency, after which it is referred to the legal committee for consideration, and the second axis is that the amendment comes from the government.”
And Muhammad continued, "Any amendment to a law that has a financial aspect must take the government's opinion of approval or rejection, and the amendment of the retirement law has not yet been presented to the committee, and we are waiting for the coming days."
In 2019, the House of Representatives made the first amendment to the Unified Retirement Law No. (9) of 2014, as Article Ten of the amended law stipulated that the employee be referred to retirement upon completion of (60) years of age, which is the legal age for retirement, regardless of his service period.
According to this law, the minimum retirement salary for the retiree is 400 thousand dinars per month, in addition to 100 thousand cost of living, so that the total amount he receives from the retirement salary is 500 thousand dinars, and the previous discussions of the Finance Committee indicated that the second amendment to the law would ensure raising the minimum salary to 700 or 800 thousand dinars, which means raising the minimum salary by 60%.
